Talks between the state government and Star City's owner Tabcorp stalled, with the gaming giant granted a second month-long exclusivity extension to continue the talks. However, it is believed they are close to agreement which would result in a lower gaming tax rate if Star City relinquishes its sole NSW casino operator privilege.
MGM Mirage said yesterday it will spend up to USD 5 billion to build a massive casino resort whose three towers will dominate the Atlantic City skyline and lift the level of luxury in a city hit hard by competition from slots parlors across the Northeast. The 3,000-room resort, planned to open in 2012, is part of a gamble by casino operators to reverse what is expected to be the first decline in casino revenue in Atlantic City in 29 years by polishing its image in an attempt to lure more affluent visitors.

The lawsuits allege that the backers of the initiatives did not have signatures supporting the measures certified on time by the state. Pechanga, Morongo and two other tribes signed new agreements with Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger allowing them to increase the number of slot machines in their casinos.

Atlantic City, New Jersey (AP) -- A fire last month at a new 800-room hotel expansion of the Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa will force the USD 400 million project to delay its opening by several months, the casino's parent company said Tuesday. Boyd Gaming Corp. said it has completed its initial assessment of the damage caused by the Sept. 23 blaze at The Water Club, a 43-story hotel and spa tower being built next to the existing casino-hotel.
