San Jacinto, California - A man suspected of masterminding the USD 1.5 million Soboba Indian Casino robbery was arrested over the weekend near Los Angeles International Airport, authorities said Monday. Rolando Luda Ramos, 25, was booked into the Southwest Detention Center Saturday on suspicion of strong armed robbery, false imprisonment, battery with injury and kidnapping. According to the Riverside County Sheriff's Department, Ramos was picked up at a hotel near LAX at 3 a.m. Saturday.

Minden, Nevada (AP) - Douglas County commissioners early Friday gave narrow approval to allow Max Baer Jr. to build a hotel-casino in northern Douglas County that includes two 143-foot hotel towers. But commissioners postponed a decision on variances to allow a 200-foot oil derrick and huge reader board that Baer says is needed to draw visitors to his proposed Beverly Hillbillies resort. Halifax (CP) - The Nova Scotia government proved it has a "conscience" by accepting recommendations from the province's ombudsman to deal with people who appear to be gambling addicts at casinos, a former problem gambler said Tuesday. Paul Burrell of Sydney, N.S., had complained to the ombudsman that he lost his life savings at the casino in his hometown because staff there failed to intervene, as required by provincial legislation.

Concerned casino workers are seeking a meeting with Prime Minister Patrick Manning to once and for all resolve issues relating to the regularisation or proposed elimination of the local gaming and gambling industry. The union representing the workers, Union of Members Clubs and Lottery Workers, said this request comes on the heels of several meetings with Minister in the Ministry of Finance Conrad Enill which they saw as inconclusive.
