For the second time this year, the state received no interest from developers for a large casino in southeast Kansas. The Kansas Lottery Commission received no applications by its 5 p.m. deadline Tuesday. It has extended the deadline by 90 days, to July 20. The commission also didn’t receive applications by a previous deadline in January.
Kansas Entertainment, a partnership between Kansas Speedway and principals of Baltimore-based The Cordish Company, resubmitted a bid yesterday for a Hard Rock Casino overlooking Turn 2 at Kansas Speedway.
Atlantic City - A group including billionaire financier Carl Icahn says it plans to bid for Atlantic City's Tropicana Casino and Resort in a bankruptcy court auction. The committee of lenders and investors filed a petition Monday with the New Jersey Casino Control Commission indicating its intent to bid on the casino. An offering price will be determined by April 1.
Six companies today proposed to build Maryland slots parlors with a total of 10,550 gambling machines — far short of the 15,000 maximum slot machines allowed under a constitutional amendment adopted last year. Topeka, Kansas (AP) -- Southeast Kansas once again is an open territory for a state-owned casino. The Kansas Racing and Gaming Commission unanimously voted Tuesday to reject Penn National Gaming Inc.'s contract to manage a casino in Cherokee County. The vote was a formality because Penn two weeks ago walked away from the contract, saying it couldn't compete with a nearby tribal casino in Oklahoma.

After losing a lengthy European Court of Justice case over the renewal of its horseracing concessions, the Italian Government plans to launch a public tender for the 329 disputed allowances by the end of the year. According to a report from Agipronews, the European Court of Justice ruled against the Italian Government’s renewal of its 2000 to 2005 licenses because it had not put them out for public tender.
New York (Reuters) - Casino regulators in New Jersey agreed on Wednesday to reject all bids received for the Tropicana Casino and Resort in Atlantic City, and to restart the process for a buyer. The New Jersey Casino Control Commission said in a statement it gave the trustee overseeing the sale process, retired state Supreme Court Justice Gary Stein, another 120 days to find a buyer for the Tropicana.
Las Vegas -- Billionaire Sheldon Adelson landed Chinese government support in his quest for a lucrative gaming franchise in Macao in 2001 after relaying assurances from a Republican Party boss that a congressional measure opposing Beijing's bid for the 2008 Olympics would "never see the light of day," according to court testimony in a civil suit here. The intelligence came out of a phone call between Adelson and then-U.S. Rep. and Majority Whip Tom DeLay (R-Texas).
Atlantic City, New Jersey - The trustee overseeing the sale of the Tropicana Casino and Resort wants to reject all the bids made for the casino so far and start over in soliciting new buyers. In a letter to the commission, retired state Supreme Court justice Gary Stein also asked the state Casino Control Commission on Thursday for another four months to complete the sale process. "The best approach is to reject all outstanding bids and to re-start the sale process," he wrote.
A new operator is bidding to take over Coventry's Ricoh casino. It was revealed last night that a potential takeover of the Isle of Capri complex is being discussed. There has been speculation for some months over the future of the GBP 36 million casino which opened in July last year. The casino management admitted that they had received interest from a potential purchaser, but refused to reveal any details of the bidder.
