The government of Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) is considering tightening the age-limit for people who enter local casinos, raising it from 18 to 21,according to a press statement released on Wednesday by the SAR's Information Bureau. Finnish government agreed on a bill to amend current gambling legislation to protect the under aged. The bill would increase the age limit for using gambling machines to 18. The proposal would include a one-year transition period implementation of the new age-limit for some automatic gambling machines. Currently the age limit is 15 for using gambling machines and participating in games of chance provided by Veikkaus, the state betting and lottery organization.

The Standard said Edmund Ho Hau-wah revealed the plan to lawmakers, who were surprised because the Macau leader did not mention it in his policy address on Tuesday. Ho did not say when he will start working on a law imposing the higher age requirement for gamblers.
