Casinos Austria opens its fifth casino in South Africa
Welkom is known for its substantial gold reserves, and is considered the capital of the gold-mining region of South Africa. A short time ago, Casinos Austria was granted a license to open a casino in Welkom, about a two hour drive from Johannesburg.
Based in a shopping center, the casino is to be themed in an appealing colonial style where the dulcet tones of jazz and blues enable visitors to forget the stresses of shopping and invite them to enjoy a little relaxed gambling. The plan initially is to have 226 gaming machines and six gaming tables, and the casino is scheduled to open in December 2003. Guests to the casino will be catered for by a total of 150 staff.
The Welkom casino is to become the fifth gaming establishment opened by Casinos Austria in South Africa. This expansion began in 1998 with the Gold Reef City Casino in Johannesburg which now has a daily average of 10 000 visitors, making it the biggest operation in the Casinos Austria Group. It was followed by casinos in Mykonos (to the North of Cape Town), Pietermaritzburg (close to Durban) and Garden Route (in the province of Western Cape).
Over the last 35 years, Casinos Austria has succeeded, through the quality of its gaming options and its responsible attitude towards gambling activities, to achieve international success and to be one of the very first Austrian companies to turn the brand of „made in Austria“ into a worldwide name.
At the present time, more than 7000 employees cater to the gaming needs of some 14 million guests a year. In 2002, the Casinos Austria Group achieved revenues of Euro 2.1 billion.
