Hotel chiefs await casino plan decision

Bosses of a Glasgow hotel will hear this week if they can transform part of Scotland’s largest ballroom into a casino.
The four-star Thistle Hotel in Cambridge Street wants to make its ground floor an up-market gambling venue – as first revealed in the Evening Times in December.

Councillors will decide tomorrow whether to give the go-ahead to the 3230sq m casino which will be created from what is presently the hotel’s foyer as well as the ballroom and bars.

The ballroom can accommodate 1500 people for conferences and 900 for dances.

The proposals are part of a refurbishment which has seen £1million spent on the hotel in the last two years.
General manager Paul Rety said: „The company has identified a demand for this type of facility.“
