The annual Gaming in Germany Conference is THE event for operators, suppliers, and service providers to find out what's happening in the German online gaming market and to meet up with all the major decision makers.

The opening of the regulated Dutch online gambling market on October 1 will not only allow Dutch consumers to legally gamble online for the first time ever but will also offer major opportunities to local suppliers and business start-ups.

At present, 35 sports betting licenses have been issued, including most of the major brands in the market. It is not expected that this number will increase substantially in the short to medium term.

Last week, the Finance Committee of the Bundestag, Germany's federal parliament, approved an amendment to the country's Horse Racing and Lotteries Act, which introduces a uniform tax rate of 5.3% on gaming stakes for various online gaming verticals in Germany.

As we reported earlier, Germany's Federal Council (Bundesrat), which represents the sixteen federal states, recently approved a legislative proposal to tax online poker and virtual slot machines at 5.3% of player stakes (minus other expenses).

Both Sachsen-Anhalt and Saarland have now ratified Germany's new State Gambling Treaty (GlüStV 2021). The ratification by Sachsen-Anhalt is particularly important as this state will be the proposed seat of the new national gambling regulator.
