The government commission examining gambling in Sweden wants to allow foreign gaming companies to operate in the country. The companies would pay for a licence to arrange betting on sports such as football, ice hockey, as well as harness racing. However, it would be a punishable offence to allow people under 18 to place bets, said commission head Jan Nyrén, citing harness racing and Oddset-brand sports betting sheets, reports Sveriges Radio.

Prosecutors Tuesday raided foreigner-only casinos run by the nation's tourism authority for breach of trust or embezzlement in the gambling venue selection process. Prosecutors seized financial documents and computer files from the two Seven Luck casinos at Oakwood Premier in COEX in southern Seoul and at Millennium Seoul Hilton Hotel. They also raided the office of the casino operator Grand Korea Leisure (GKL), and GKL Chairman Park Jung-sam's home.

The Union of Members Clubs and Lottery Workers (UMCLW) is demanding that Government put a hold on granting licences and work permits to foreigners as a way of dealing with the reported foreign infiltration and alleged "foreign Mafia" in the gaming industry.

Brussels: The EU threatened France with court action on Wednesday unless it changes a law banning foreign gambling advertising — a ban that stopped a Unibet.com cycling team from taking part in this year's Tour de France race. The European Commission also told Sweden to end limits on sports gambling services, and said the two countries effectively block companies based in other EU countries from doing business there.

A Tel Aviv court upheld a lower court ruling today, stating that any company operating a gambling website that targets Israelis is breaking the law, no matter if the site is run from abroad and if the company is registered outside Israel. The ruling was handed down in the appeal of Michael Carlton, an English citizen and CEO of the website Victor Chandler Casino. Note that no charges have been filed in the case as yet: the case is undergoing investigation.

Foreign casinos along Chinese borders have either been forced to shut down or go underground because of crackdowns by police and their collaboration with foreign counterparts. The number of such casinos has shrunk from 149 - many of them illegal - in 2005 to 28 now. Of those still in business, nine are in the southwestern border area with Myanmar and Vietnam and the remaining along the northern border with Russia, according to the Ministry of Public Security.
