The Venetian Macau Limited (VML) yesterday donated some 2.5 million patacas raised by its staff members to the Chinese Liaison Office in Macau to aid the Sichuan quake relief. The fund-raising initiative of staff members came after chairman and CEO of Las Vegas Sands Corp, Sheldon Adelson, donated five million patacas to support the quake victims on May 14.
Two-thirds of gambling companies have failed to contribute anything to a fund for supporting problem gamblers, the BBC has learned. Only 1,000 of 3,200 licensed gambling firms have donated money, says the Responsibility in Gambling Trust. City Council is expected to vote soon on a resolution to reopen the city’s negotiations with Trump Entertainment Resorts Inc., the latest attempt to decrease a USD 34 million tax appeal settlement the mayor labels as a bad deal. Newly sworn-in City Councilman Steven Moore, who was not yet on council in November when the settlement was approved, said that he is sponsoring the measure to ensure that taxpayer money is not misspent.
