The Arias government says that if the Russian casino group, Storm International BV, complies with all the current regulations it cannot be stopped from setting up shop in Costa Rica, according to the country’s vice-president, Laura Chinchilla. In an interview with the Spanish language daily, Al Día, Chinchilla said that the government is moving quickly to revise the Gambling regulation and to stop the Russian group from coming to Costa Rica, which is expected by July.

Malaysia's Landmarks Bhd., backed by Asia's largest gambling company, hopes to build Indonesia's first legalized casinos in a USD 3.1 billion resort project to compete with Las Vegas Sands Corp. in Singapore. The "objective is to develop a new destination for Indonesia," Chief Operating Officer Lim Boon Soon said in an interview in Kuala Lumpur. By joining with the gaming industry's premier trade show and conference event, Casino Design will now be able to offer features such as the Casino Design pavilion on the G2E show floor and expanded networking opportunities. G2E 2008 is scheduled for Nov. 18-20, 2008, with the Casino Design conference taking place on Nov. 17, at the Las Vegas Convention Center.

New laws have been passed in Costa Rica that will change the way that many of the casinos will be run and ultimately prevent new casinos being built in Costa Rica as casinos begin to limit their operations in line with these rules. Casinos that plan to be built from new since these law changes will have to measure up as at least a 3 star resort with 60 rooms that are all offered complete services. Phnom Penh (Xinhua) -- There were no casualties in the fire which burned part of the Naga Casino here on Saturday, Cambodian police said. "We are preparing to create a committee to investigate this fire accident," Phnom Penh Police Commander Touch Naroath told Xinhua. Nobody died from this accident, he added. The fire only destroyed some construction materials inside the building and part of its first and second floor, staff and construction workers said.
