We believe a longer-range perspective is important to bring balance that appears to be missing. While it is true that we have experienced revenue declines over the past year and a half, let's not lose sight of the fact that New Jersey's casino industry is far larger and more important to our state's economy than its original advocates projected.
Detroit -- Detroit's casinos are holding their own against the state's widespread economic downturn, though it's been a struggle for some. The city's casinos posted an overall 5.67 percent rise in August revenue, compared with the same month a year ago. But the increase solely came from powerful gains at MGM Grand Detroit, according to figures released Tuesday by the Michigan Gaming Control Board.

The Eastern Shawnee tribe of Oklahoma and the city of Monroe are again discussing a potential deal that might bring a casino to Warren County, the Hamilton Journal-News reported Tuesday. Columbus, Kansas - The Cherokee County commissioners on Monday met behind closed doors with their attorney for casino issues to discuss possible action if Penn National Gaming withdraws from its contract for a state-owned casino in the county. The Kansas Lottery Gaming Facility Review Board on Aug. 22 approved Penn National’s contract for the Cherokee County casino, but the board also went with a proposal by Harrah’s Entertainment for a casino in Sumner County.
