“Let's reclaim the market”
During his opening remarks, Gaming in Germany founder Willem van Oort launched a call to action to reclaim Germany's online gambling market from unlicensed competitors.
Van Oort suggested four concrete courses of action to weaken the influence of illegal operators:
- We must find ways to stop the flow of players toward illegal operators by forcing Big Tech to comply with applicable regulations.
- Suppliers of criminal enterprises must be shut out from doing business with licensed operators. Tipico's groundbreaking Trusted Partner Program offers an excellent example of how this can be done.
- B2B licensing is an important tool that authorities could use to weaken the infrastructure that supports illegal operators.
- Gambling regulators should consider developing close working relationships with criminal enforcement agencies as regulatory authorities are generally designed to supervise regulated markets, not to go after organized crime.
