Morocco Looks for New Gaming Project

A new gaming and mixed-use development is set to break ground later this year in Morocco. The 1,000-acre project is planned for the popular holiday city of Ouarzazate in the middle of the country near the Atlas Mountains. Société d’Aménagement et de Valorisation de Ouarzazate (SAVO) is the developer of the project, which will be the largest gaming location in the country.

Several casinos will be at the heart of the development, but SAVO is also planned to build six themed hotels with more than 3,000 beds. Additionally, there will be three residential villages spread out on the property as well as an outdoor movie theatre, museum, golf course and aquapark. The developer hopes to break ground later this year and have the first hotel open in 2011.

Ouarzazate is the gateway to explorations of the Atlas Mountains and Sahara Desert beyond. It has become a popular place for travelers from abroad who want to experience the heart of the country and explore further. It is also a well-known locale for filming movies, with Lawrence of Arabia and The Sheltering Sky being shot around the city.
