City not to extend lease contracts of Old Town casinos

Tallinn City Government says that it plans not to extend lease contracts of casinos that are located in the Tallinn Old Town.

Deputy Mayor of Tallinn Jaanus Mutli wrote in local newspaper Pealinn that according to the Old Town Development Plan 2008-2013, the number of casinos operating in the Old Town would fall since the City will not extend lease contracts for its premises that are being used by casino operators.

“I believe that the majority of Tallinners agree that casinos and the Old Town do not go together,” said Mutli. In addition, the City wants to become the first local government to impose opening time restriction on casinos.”

“It says it supports the proposal made by the association of gambling addicts to allow casinos to operate only at night when children and young people are at home asleep,” Mutli concluded.
