The Mohegan Tribal Gaming Authority will open an office in Palmer, Mass. The idea isn’t to promote Mohegan Sun in Connecticut, but to prepare for the potential expansion of the brand to Palmer should the commonwealth legalize gambling. The tribal authority already has a lease on a 150-plus acre site. The office opening comes at an uncertain time in the gaming industry.
The Mohegan Tribal Gaming Authority announced this week it will suspend the next components of its expansion due to uncertainty in the economy and its impact on the region’s gaming market. Harrisburg - A former top-ranking state gambling regulator who left his job three months ago is now a lawyer and registered lobbyist for Mohegan Sun at Poconos Downs in Plains Township and Philadelphia Park casino in Bensalem. Attorney Kevin C. Hayes of Scranton served as director of the Office of Gaming Operations for the state Gaming Control Board until May 29, when he resigned.
Mashantucket, Connecticut - Two of the world's largest casinos are getting a lot bigger this week, betting that they can draw more visitors by becoming entertainment destinations even as the gaming industry suffers nationally because of high gas prices and the weak economy. Foxwoods Resort Casino, run by the Mashantucket Pequots Indian tribe, will open its USD 700 million MGM Grand this weekend.
