Biloxi, Mississippi 2009- The tournament was held at the Beau Rivage Resort and Casino (A MGM property). It had about the same amount of players as last year, 200 players for the USD 300 and USD 500 buy ins on the weekends and 150 players during the week.

I was up day and night, but Anne, my wife, came and helped after a couple of days. I came to these warm gulf coast sandy shores with a friend, John, and Anne came later.

Biloxi, MS (January 15, 2009) – The Main Event of the 2009 Southern Poker Championship continued today at Beau Rivage Resort & Casino in Biloxi. At the tournament’s midway point, the current chip leader is Allen Carter, from Carrollton, Texas. He currently leads the pack of 27 players who still remain alive in the first World Poker Tour competition of the new year. The USD 10,000 buy-in championship event started off yesterday with 283 entries.

Biloxi, MS (January 9, 2009) – What a victory for this former poker dealer who now plays on the other side of the poker table. He occasionally deals at a casino near Biloxi for fun. Omaha is known to seemingly not have as much of a "luck" factor as no limit and attracts usually an older group of players. In fact, "Eddy" Pullens was the youngest player at the final table at 36.

Biloxi, MS (January 8, 2009) – Event #7 was won by a professional player, Russ Salzer, who collected in his third major tournament since 2000. He was heads-up against second place Yuebin Guo who had a much smaller chip stack and it was only a matter of time before the bitter end. Salzer is 49 years of age, was 29th in the 2005 WSOP Championship and has also collected over USD 820,000 in career tournament winnings.

Biloxi, MS (January 8, 2009) – After eliminating New Orleans, LA student, Bobby Toye, in third place, Al Green set his sights on the prize purse of over USD 28,808 plus a custom 1.5 ounce white gold diamond encrusted made bracelet. Bobby went all in with the Doyle Brunson hand of 10-2 against Al's A-8. The community cards came 7-7-5-5-9 and Bobby went all out. This set up the heads-up match and it was back and forth.

Biloxi, MS (January 7, 2009) – Bill Bostick, a 39-year-old from St. Clair, MI, decided to play poker regularly after being layed off from his job one year ago. His escapades has taken him to cashes on the Heartland Poker Tour in New York, the WSOP Circuit at Lake Tahoe, the Bayou Winter Poker Challenge in New Orleans, and then today winning his first major poker tournament. With this USD 12,366 victory, he now has over USD 100,000 in tournament winnings!

Biloxi, MS (January 7, 2009) – University of Texas student Michael Benvenuti won USD 63,898 at the fourth event of the 2009 Southern Poker Championship. Benvenuti is a fifth year college student majoring in neurobiology. After playing for 14 hours the first day, 207 players were eliminated. The final nine returned the next day to duke it out. Benvenuti looked relaxed as he eliminated the 2nd, 3rd and 4th place finishers.

Biloxi, MS (January 6, 2009) – This third event is the second USD 500 event here in the Grand Ballroom of the Beau Rivage Resort & Casino. The first event was USD 300 with 1005 entries. The second event was USD 500 with 566 entries and this event has 409 entries and a prize pool of over USD 188,000. After playing the first day for 14 hours, 20 players remained. Returning the next day, our newest champion of the year, Mark Wilds, is 2nd to the last place in the chip count.
