The owners of Leeds's new GBP 13m casino and entertainment venue have offered a sneak preview ahead of its official opening in September. The 1,700 capacity Alea Leeds casino is located in the recently developed £260m Clarence Dock quarter of the city and its owners believe it will become one of Leeds's hottest entertainment destinations. The official opening party is on September 10 when customers will be able to see the development for themselves.

A GBP 260m waterside development including a casino, entertainment, office and living space is to be launched in Leeds. Clarence Dock will be officially launched to the public in September this year. It will include more than 1.2 million sq ft of entertainment and living space. The project involves the regeneration of another part of Leeds' waterfront. ALEA, a new GBP 15m, 65,000 sq ft casino and entertainment venue at the entrance to Clarence Dock will also open its doors in September to coincide with other leisure openings on site.

Las Vegas-based Harrah’s Entertainment has opened Scotland’s largest casino in Glasgow. Harrah’s stated that its USD 50 million Alea casino will cater to primarily working-class players. A giant casino set to open in Glasgow has been hit by another delay, but at least it now has a name. The gambling mecca which was due to open in summer 2006, will be called “Alea”, after an ancient Roman term for a game of chance. Bosses of the complex, which will have floor space bigger than a football pitch and be Scotland’s biggest casino, are now recruiting. They want experienced or trainee card dealers, roulette wheel operators and cashiers to fill some of the 250 jobs the venue could bring to the city.
