Brazil Intensifies Crackdown on Illegal Gambling Payments

The Brazilian government is taking more extreme measures to combat illegal gambling operations ahead of the regulated market's launch on 1st January 2025. A key strategy involves disrupting payment channels used by unlicensed operators.

The Ministry of Finance has established a dedicated team to target illegal sites that process payments through Pix, a popular instant payment system in Brazil. By controlling Pix, the government aims to cut off a major source of funding for illegal gambling.

Licensed payment providers, authorized by the Central Bank, will play a crucial role in the regulated market. They will cooperate with the government to identify and report suspicious transactions.

With Pix and traditional payment methods becoming increasingly restricted, illegal operators will have limited options for processing payments. Cash and cryptocurrency are likely to face significant challenges.

Overall, Brazil's efforts to crack down on illegal gambling payments are expected to have a significant impact on the industry. By disrupting payment channels and increasing enforcement, the government aims to create a more level playing field for licensed operators and protect consumers from the risks associated with unregulated gambling.
