A cycle of conferences on online gaming to be held in Spain

Regulation of casinos and online betting would be close to its approval. Angeles González, General Technical Secretary of the Minister of Interior and representative of the National Gaming Commission, would bring a complete vision on the progress of regulation plans in Spain, in an event that will take place next March 9th in Madrid.

The idea is to show the scenario that could be treated in upcoming conferences on “Online gaming in Spain– Current legal situation”, to be held on March 9th 2009 in Madrid. It has the aim to comment the current situation of the market to both Spanish and international operators that show its interest in the sector. It is also a moment of great political interest on the matter.

After political party PP proposed the official government the possibility to introduce the promised regulation in a 3-month period, representatives of the private sector raised the petition to accelerate the approval of the new national legislation. According to research, the non-regulated online gambling market generated in Spain around 200 million euros in 2008.

The different issues to be treated are: if the country is ready for the development of legal online gambling as well as more specific areas in a possible new regulation. Besides, representatives of specialized jurisdictions on the matter will be present to show their experience on the subject, as Alderney case, Malta and “Remote Gambling Association”.
