A new report from the Swedish Gambling Authority (Spelinspektionen) has exposed a disturbing trend: a strong correlation between early exposure to loot boxes and skin gambling in video games and the development of risky gambling behaviours in young adults.
With new casinos on their way in Pennsylvania, the state Gaming Control Board wanted to make it very clear that underage gambling will not be tolerated. That could be a reason they fined Greenwood Gaming and Entertainment Inc. the USD 24,000 this past week. The fine comes on the heels of two instances where state police found the underage gamblers. The first involved a 20 year old who was playing slots for more than an hour.
Card rooms in Washington already get punished when they allow people under 18 to gamble. Now they say it’s time for the kids to get in trouble, too. A bill in the Legislature would make it a civil infraction for a minor to gamble, creating penalties similar to those for underage drinking. The state Senate voted unanimously Friday to approve the bill. It now must pass through the House and be signed by Gov. Chris Gregoire.
