Administrative Law Judge Earl Shamwell Jr. set aside the results of the first vote, in which the union lost by eight votes out of 358 ballots cast.

Atlantic City - The United Auto Workers union kicked-off contract negotiations today with Tropicana Casino and Resort, as well as continued contract talks with Caesars Atlantic City, months after workers at the two casinos voted overwhelmingly to unionize. The casinos met separately at the Atlantic City Convention Center with teams of UAW representatives made up of union officials and casino workers representing the collective bargaining committees.

Dealers at Foxwoods Resort Casino say they are going ahead with union preparations after the Nov. 24 vote regardless of objections management has filed with the National Labor Relations Board. "When I got started, I said to myself, 'I will see this to the end. I will not waiver from this.' ...We deserve it and we need it," 15-year dealer Bill Shea of Westerly said.

In the end, after a tough battle to organize dealers at the Atlantic City Hilton, the union lost. Among the wounded, according to a federal lawsuit filed Friday, was Wayne Chiw, 65, a longtime pit boss at the Atlantic City Hilton, and his wife, Elana, 63, who worked there as a supervisor. He was a soldier for the company, which enlisted him to help persuade the Asian dealers at the Hilton and its sister casino, Resorts Hotel & Casino, that they would be better off without the United Auto Workers, which has been organizing dealers in Atlantic City's casinos.

Atlantic Cit, New Jersey - Full- and part-time card dealers at the Tropicana Casino and Resort have approved a bid to unionize. The dealers voted 626-157 on Sunday to join the United Auto Workers, the union said. "Workers are on a roll in Atlantic City," said Joe Ashton, director of UAW Region 9, which includes New Jersey. The UAW has been pushing hard to organize workers at all of Atlantic City's 11 casinos. It has won elections at four gambling halls and lost at two others.
