European Commission Study Challenges Sports Betting Right

Brussels, 15th May 2014: The regulated betting industry welcomes the main findings of a European Commission funded study on sports organisers’ rights in the European Union. British Online Gambling Tax proposals need to be changed

A KPMG study, commissioned by The Remote Gambling Association (RGA), has concluded that HM Treasury’s place of consumption tax regime for online gambling is likely to fail to achieve its aims unless the rate of gross profits tax is no higher than 10% and it makes allowances for companies to offset costs associated with bonuses and incentives.

Why do the federal states forgo extra revenue of 1.5 billion Euro?

Barcelona/Munich, July 2013. The German federal states could generate additional tax revenue of more than 1.5 billion Euro between 2014 and 2017. This would require neither redistribution nor tax increases. It would merely be necessary to adjust the inter-state treaty on gambling (GlüStV), which has been in force for one year, to market realities.

Study lauds casinos on jobs

Casinos are a terrific source of good-paying, benefit-rich, blue-collar jobs, the Labor Resource Center of the University of Massachusetts at Boston has found. The center’s new report - “Gaming in Massachusetts: Can Casinos Bring ‘Good Jobs’ to the Commonwealth?” - finds that for workers without a college education, casinos and their related enterprises pay higher salaries and provide more generous benefits than non-gaming jobs.

New study could pave the way for casinos in Bermuda

Bermuda could get its own lottery, along with hotel casinos, after Government confirmed today they are taking a serious look at the island's gambling laws. Making a formal announcement this morning, Premier Ewart Brown appeared to acknowledge that he may be putting himself on collision course with the church lobby. However, he also said that many Bermudians would welcome being able to gamble on the island, rather than having to make gaming trips to the States.
