Pinnacle Entertainment Inc. said Monday that Hurricane Ike damaged its Lake Charles, La., casino. The storm created a record-high storm surge, which damaged some of the entrance and exit ramps at the L’Auberge du Lac Casino Resort. Pinnacle’s construction team is working with structural engineers and marine experts to inspect and repair the ramps so the company can reopen the casino as quickly as possible, Pinnacle said.

Biloxi, Mississippi (AP) — All 11 of Mississippi’s coastal casinos and one in Natchez have been given permission to reopen. Eddie Williams, deputy director of the state Gaming Commission, says one casino on the coast needs a few days to recover from Hurricane Gustav. Silver Slipper in Hancock County had damage to coolers and freezers on the first level.

Coast casinos‘ move onshore after Hurricane Katrina spared them from serious damage during Hurricane Gustav. Mississippi Gaming Commission Executive Director Larry Gregory is receiving reports from each of the 11 casinos and will make the decision to reopen when it is safe. Hard Rock Casino in Biloxi got about two feet of water in the swimming pool and in the lobby, said General Manager Duncan McKenzie.

Jackson, Mississippi (AP) — Mississippi’s 11 Gulf Coast casinos are preparing this Labor Day weekend for Tropical Storm Gustav, three years after Hurricane Katrina turned several of the massive casino barges and hotels into waterlogged heaps of rumble. The 12 casinos operating along the coast on Aug. 29, 2005, were either flooded or carried away by Katrina’s powerful winds and storm surge. It was several months before the first one reopened.

Coast casino owners are hoping for a quiet hurricane season like last year, but are planning for the worst. A meeting today with casino operators, the Mississippi Gaming Commission, local government officials and emergency personnel at IP Casino Resort will ensure all plans are coordinated should a hurricane target the Coast.
