Casino Staff Fury at Pay Rise Deferral

A union leader has described a pay freeze for Plymouth casino workers as a "kick in the teeth". Staff at the Stanley Casino in Union Street are said to be "angry and frustrated" at the deferral of any pay rise this year by the managers of the leisure giant Genting Stanley. Gary Smith, of the GMB union, said: "It is a kick in the real teeth and customer relations will be affected as morale is so low.

Ho’s Macau Gambling Empire Goes Public

Hong Kong - Sociedade de Jogos de Macau, Macau's dominant gaming group, controlled by casino tycoon Stanley Ho, kicked off an informal road show in Hong Kong this week, getting set for its initial public offering, aiming to raise up to USD 1 billion. SJM plans to issue 1.25 billion new shares, accounting for about 25% of its enlarged share capital. Among the new shares, 85% will be sold to institutional investors, and 5% will be reserved for employees, leaving 10% available to the general public.

Stanley Ho to create a fleet of planes to lure VIP players to Macau

Casino tycoon, Stanley Ho, will invest more than USD 100 million in a fleet of planes to attract clients to Macau, a move qualified as a bet to keep his market share after the increment of the competence. “The continuous development of high-level gambling business in Macao Games Society is generating a demand for transport, which includes private airplanes”, pointed Ho. Stanley Ho (Founder and managing director SJM): The elusive billionaire had a 40-year monopoly on Macao gambling and remains one of the world's biggest casino operators, despite inroads by American companies, such as Las Vegas Sands Corp. and Wynn Resorts Ltd., that have cut his market share nearly in half. Ho is countering with more elaborate casinos, including the Grand Lisboa, which debuted in February, and two outsized casino projects, Oceanus and Ponte 16.

Iemma has new casino talks

The prospect of a second NSW casino has re-emerged after it was confirmed yesterday that a Hong Kong billionaire talked to the Premier before the election about setting one up. Stanley Ho, whose son Lawrence is involved in casino interests with James Packer in Macau, had a private discussion with Morris Iemma, the Premier's office confirmed yesterday. There is speculation that the possibility of a casino at Tweed Heads is being used by the Government in its negotiations with Tabcorp.

Macau leader denies stake in tycoon’s casino empire

Hong Kong: Edmund Ho, leader of the Chinese gambling enclave of Macau, has denied reports alleging he has financial interests in the businesses of the region's most powerful casino mogul. The South China Morning Post reported Monday that Ho has held a stake in the Macau casino empire controlled by tycoon Stanley Ho through a Hong Kong company for the past 15 years. Bankers lined up to arrange loans for Macau casino deal

Lai Sun Development Co, a Hong Kong real estate developer, and its media unit have hired Deutsche Bank AG and Morgan Stanley to arrange USD 1.7 billion in loans for a casino project in Macau. The loans will be used to fund development and construction of the hotel, retail and entertainment portions of Macao Studio City, a 3.65 million square-foot project, Lai Sun and ESun Holdings Ltd said in a joint statement to Hong Kong's stock exchange on Friday. The site is located in Macau's Cotai district, the companies said.

Bets are off as casino closes for good

Mystery surrounds the closure of a Fylde coast casino. Bosses at Stanley Casino in St Annes shut its doors for the final time last Saturday, moving its operation to Blackpool. Hundreds of members at the casino, based at The Island entertainment complex, were informed of the closure by letter. Around 50 full and part-time staff who worked at the St Annes complex have been found positions at other Stanley casinos in the North West.
