A decision in the marathon High Court case involving Betfair's challenge to Western Australia's anti-gambling exchange laws is now expected within six months. After three days of argument last month, counsel for Betfair, Stephen Gageler SC, returned to Canberra yesterday to wrap up his case. He has argued the WA laws breach Section 92 of the constitution, which protects freedom of trade between the states.

The United States continues to resist compliance with a World Trade Organization ruling regarding the double standards inherent in US online gambling regulations. In addition to reaching settlement with Antigua, the US will also have to negotiate settlements with several other countries. The Antigua Sun printed excerpts of an interview with an official from the United States Trade Representative (USTR) office which outlined the basic US strategy for resisting the ruling.
