More than 1,000 people representing a number of civic and religious organizations, joined a “backwards march” in Taipei yesterday to show their opposition to the construction of casino resorts on off-shore islands. Lining up behind a big red banner that read: “Save Taiwan from casinos,” the activists began their demonstration in Liberty Square and marched toward the Presidential Office.
A group of workers of the 18 casinos closed by the Quito City Council demanded an audience with President Rafael Correa last week. The operation was performed Saturday 15th. Workers concentrated in the surroundings of the Ministry of the Coast. There, the employees of the firm Invermun SA protested for the closure of gambling venues and the loss of their jobs. According to the company, in the 18 casinos closed there are 2,000 people working, plus other 5,000 that have indirect jobs.

Calling them “dens of vice”, the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) plans to launch a campaign against casinos in the tourist hub of Goa this month. “We cannot protest in public as the code of conduct is on (with the by-election in Pale assembly constituency scheduled in November), but once the polls are over and done with we will make sure that casinos are thrown out of Goa,” leader of opposition Manohar Parrikar claimed.
Kathmandu: Staff of the city's famous casinos on Saturday were up in arms in protest against alleged police highhandedness at one of the seven super joints last night, which left over two dozen staff members injured. Over 6,000 employees of the city's seven casino's took to streets to protest the incident at a time when the capital city is looking forward to influx of more tourists and clients, to turn the tide for these gaming houses, which have worn a forlorn look for the past few years.
Garden Grove – About 500 Vietnamese Americans packed the Community Meeting Center on Tuesday evening, carrying banners protesting the proposed casino resort on Harbor Boulevard in the city-designated resort area. It was a standing-room-only crowd inside council chambers, and hundreds of others watched the meeting on television as they occupied other rooms at the center holding small signs and large banners that read "No casino in Garden Grove" and "Gambling destroys lives."
Industry - Union leaders led a protest at Assemblyman Charles Calderon's office Tuesday, alleging that a bill being championed by the assemblyman would allow expansion of an Inland Empire tribal casino without adequate protections for workers. About 30 workers and union members carried placards denouncing Calderon and the Morongo Resort and Casino, shouting slogans including "Without Justice or Respect, There is No Peace!" in Spanish.
