Panaji - The international laws governing casinos are being studied by the State government to formulate a separate legislation covering the casinos, home minister Ravi Naik said. Naik, responding to the bill during the ongoing state legislative assembly session, said that the government is working on a separate legislation governing casinos, including off-shore casinos, as the existing law is not full-proof.

Panaji - With Panaji port turning into an off shore casino hub, the ships carrying iron ore have complained about the congestion of their traditional pathway especially a narrow stretch in the Mandovi river. The Mandovi canal, adjacent to the capital city of Panaji, a point where Mandovi river meets Arabian sea, currently has four off shore casino boats anchored in it.

Panaji: India’s second off-shore casino based in south Goa is in trouble with the locals, in no mood to accept the vessel, which is hindering the fishing trawlers. “The casino will adversely affect the livelihood of local fishermen, whose trawlers wade through the narrow river strip where the casino vessel is scheduled to be stationed,’’ Elvino D’Silva, chairman, Assolna-Velim-Cavelosim-Betul (AVCB) traditional fishermen, stated.
