Trenton, New Jersey (AP) -- A New Jersey senator is vowing to fight a federal law that limits legalized sports gambling. Sen. Raymond Lesniak said Monday that he's asked Gov. Jon S. Corzine to file suit declaring the federal law an interstate commerce violation. The federal statute limits legalized sports betting to Delaware, Montana, Nevada and Oregon. If Corzine doesn't take action, Lesniak -- a Union County Democrat who heads a major law firm -- said he'll file a lawsuit himself.
Governor Jon S. Corzine signed a bill that will keep video lottery terminals out of New Jersey horse tracks for three years while requiring resort casinos to annually pay USD 30 million to horse racing interests. The bill also establishes a casino tax credit on bonuses several casinos give to players that can only be used at those casinos. While the casinos currently pay an eight percent casino gross revenue tax on them, the bill caps the tax on the first USD 90 million.

He recently lost his only New Jersey casino license in a high-stakes case that has reverberated throughout the gambling industry. And regulators in the four states where he is still in the gambling business — Indiana, Louisiana, Mississippi and Nevada — are investigating or reviewing his operations.
New Jersey casino operators moan that smoking restrictions in Atlantic City caused many of their best customers to flee to the smoker-friendly casinos of Pennsylvania and Connecticut. However, a legal opinion issued in Connecticut may allow lawmakers to extend a state smoking ban to the American-Indian casinos. Tribal casinos, though, claim that smoking restrictions would be a threat to tribal sovereignty.
Tropicana Entertainment on Tuesday filed a long-threatened appeal of New Jersey regulators’ decision to strip it of its Atlantic City gaming license. Atlantic City - A New York developer said Tuesday he is putting together a group interested in buying the Tropicana Casino and Resort for USD 950 million. Joseph Palladino, who said he has been active in the Brooklyn, N.Y., real estate market and is considering a project on a former supermarket site in Brick Township identified himself Tuesday as the second bidder for the hotel-casino.
