The city's casinos posted an overall 5.67 percent rise in August revenue, compared with the same month a year ago. Las Vegas (AP) -- Casino operator MGM Mirage took a step forward Tuesday on its proposed MGM Grand Atlantic City project by filing for a coastal area development permit. MGM said in October that it would spend up to USD 5 billion on the 3,000-room Atlantic City, N.J., casino resort, targeted to open in 2012. The casino operator filed an application with the N.J. Department of Environmental Protection's land-use regulation program for a Coastal Area Facility Review Act permit.

Dubai World on Friday disclosed that it’s taken its stake in MGM Mirage to 6.5%, buying a sliver of the interest held by billionaire investor Kirk Kerkorian, who remains the dominant shareholder of Las Vegas-based casino hotel. According to a filing made with the Securities and Exchange Commission, the investment arm of the Dubai government raised its holding in the casino operator from 4.9% by buying 5 million shares at USD 84.50 each from the Lincy Foundation, Kerkorian’s philanthropic vehicle.

MGM Mirage, the world’s second largest casino operator, and the daughter of billionaire Stanley Ho are betting their Macau venture will grab a slice of the VIP market, which nets about two-thirds of the Chinese city’s gambling revenue. The USD 1.25 billion, 600-room MGM Grand Macau casino, which opened December 18, would benefit from its position on the waterfront in Macau’s city centre, near established VIP venues Wynn Macau, Galaxy Entertainment Group Ltd’s StarWorld and her father’s Grand Lisboa, Pansy Ho told reporters at a briefing in the southern Chinese city.
