Gran Scala, the hugely ambitious mega-resort earmarked for the desert region of Aragón, Spain, will become European "most important" amusement and tourism destination, according to developers. Pegged for a first-phase opening in the second quarter of 2010, Gran Scala will occupy 2,025 hectares in Los Monegros, which lies approximately 320 kilometres east of Madrid.

Hong Kong - Casino magnate Steve Wynn's flagship Wynn Resorts is reportedly planning a secondary listing in Hong Kong, aiming to raise USD 3 billion to finance the construction of a mega-resort complex in Macau. The share offering, however, is under a cloud amid negative market sentiment. Wynn Resorts has appointed UBS, Deutsche Bank and Morgan Stanley to arrange the Hong Kong listing, which is likely to be the largest initial public offering in the city this year if it proceeds.

Atlantic City - The sprawling dirt site where Pinnacle Entertainment's USD 1.5 billion megaresort is supposed to rise will remain vacant for at least two more years. An Atlantic City casino development group headed by Curtis Bashaw and Wallace Barr has proposed a USD 1.5 billion to USD 2 billion mega-resort on the site of the old Dunes Casino, at the southern end of the Boardwalk. At 253.5 meters, it would rival some New York skyscrapers and include 2,000 hotel rooms, more than 18,580 sqm of gaming space, 32,516 sqm of retail, dining and entertainment, and 13,935 sqm of convention space.
