Las Vegas Sands bets on new Cirque show in Macau

Macau (Reuters) - Las Vegas Sands Corp offered a peek on Thursday at a USD 150-million Cirque du Soleil show that will open at the Venetian Macau, the casino operator's latest high-stakes bet that it can get visitors to the Asian city to do more than gamble. The dreamy "Zaia" features dancers and acrobats depicting a story of a girl who ventures into outer space in Asia's first permanent Cirque du Soleil installation. It has an initial contract of 10 years.

Hong Kong businessman awarded USD 43.8 million in Las Vegas Sands case

Las Vegas - A jury on Saturday awarded a Hong Kong businessman a USD 43.8-million judgment against Las Vegas Sands Corp., the casino giant run by billionaire Sheldon Adelson. Richard Suen claimed he was owed up to USD 100 million for helping the Las Vegas-based company secure a lucrative gambling license in the Chinese enclave of Macau. Suen said he was hired by Las Vegas Sands to win favour with the Chinese government and was successful.

Vegas Sands exec sees no lasting effect from Adelson comment

The No. 2 executive at Las Vegas Sands Corp. said Monday that he believes a corporate tempest caused by casino company chief Sheldon Adelson's testimony about a possible breach of fiduciary responsibilities has blown over. "It all got straightened out by the end of the day," said William Weidner, chairman and chief operating officer of the parent corporation of The Venetian resort.

Las Vegas Sand wants to build more Cotai Strips in Asia

Las Vegas Sands Corp. Chairman and CEO Sheldon Adelson said his company stands ready to take its Cotai Strip model of destination resort development into other emerging Asian gaming markets. Adelson wants the jurisdictions to cough up lucrative tax breaks, infrastructure construction and other concessions before the gaming company will spend USD 15 billion to USD 20 billion to replicate what it is building in Macau.

Las Vegas Sands Corporation still waiting on Cotai approvals

Las Vegas Sands Corporation (LVS) has yet to receive government approval to develop more than half of the parcels of land it has commenced developing in Cotai. The company does not have all of the paperwork in order for the development of land across the six-lane road from its first project in the area, the Venetian Macao, it said in its annual report which was released yesterday. “We have commenced construction or pre-construction for the projects on parcels 5, 6, 7 and 8 on the Cotai Strip for which we have not yet been granted land concessions,” the report stated.

Las Vegas Sands not interested in UK casinos

Los Angeles (Reuters) - U.S. gambling giant Las Vegas Sands is not interested in running any casinos in Britain after the government there scaled back its plan to open a supercasino in Manchester, a top executive said on Wednesday. "We spent a lot of time with the folks there (in Britain), trying to figure out how to do a larger style of gaming," said William Weidner, Chief Operating Officer of Las Vegas Sands, at the Reuters Travel and Leisure Summit in Los Angeles.

Las Vegas Sands Rises on Venetian Macao

New York (AP) -- Shares of Las Vegas Sands Corp. climbed Tuesday as investors dismissed the casino operator's fourth-quarter earnings miss, instead concentrating on improved Venetian Macao results, according to an analyst. Late Monday Sheldon Adelson-led Las Vegas Sands said its quarterly profit slid 65 percent to 11 cents per share. Adjusted earnings came in at 20 cents per share, which missed the 35 cents-per-share estimate of analysts surveyed by Thomson Financial.

Macau Court ruling favors Las Vegas Sands’ CotaiJet

Las Vegas Sands Corporation announced on Thursday that the Macao Intermediate Court has removed an interim injunction that had suspended the company’s entitlement to operate a ferry service between Hong Kong and Macao. The CotaiJet was suspended in mid-December. The CotaiJet service had been operating for just over a week and was offering service between Hong Kong’s Macao Ferry Terminal at Shun Tak Centre and Macao’s newly opened Taipa Temporary Ferry Terminal when it was suspended in mid-December.
