Macau's gaming revenue last month fell 30 percent from January 2008. And its fourth quarter earnings were lower than its first quarter in 2008. That has worried some investors. China's gambling destination, Macau, has boasted about gaming revenue increases for almost a decade. But in January, gaming revenue was just over USD 928 million, a drop of 30 percent from last year.
The latest figures due out from SA’s listed casino groups are likely to show that growth in gaming revenues will most likely have peaked after a decade of strong growth. The economic downturn, as well as the fact that there are few new casino licences up for grabs, is likely to put the brakes on revenue growth in the sector. The Casino Association of SA’s (Casa’s) 2008 survey of casino entertainment shows that gross gaming revenue grew from ZAR 6,22bn in 2001-02 to ZAR 15,618bn in 2007-08.
Colorado’s three gaming towns logged dramatic declines in revenue in September from September 2007, according to statistics the state’s division of gaming released Monday. Limited-stakes gambling is allowed in three Colorado mountain towns: Central City, Black Hawk and Cripple Creek. Colorado’s casino revenue dropped 18.72 percent to USD 59.3 million in September. Casino revenue helps fund the Colorado Historical Society, city and county governments in casino towns, and the state’s tourism industry.
