Topeka, Kansas (AP) -- Southeast Kansas once again is an open territory for a state-owned casino. The Kansas Racing and Gaming Commission unanimously voted Tuesday to reject Penn National Gaming Inc.'s contract to manage a casino in Cherokee County. The vote was a formality because Penn two weeks ago walked away from the contract, saying it couldn't compete with a nearby tribal casino in Oklahoma.

Harrison County - A new casino could open in western Harrison County if Blue Water Bay Resort and Casino gets the blessing of the Mississippi Gaming Commission on Thursday. Seneca President Maurice A. John Sr. has issued a request of the National Indian Gaming Commission chairman, who is examining options pertaining to the Seneca Nation of Indians' Buffalo Creek Casino. The national agency recently issued a notice of violation to the Nation's Gaming Corp., meaning the corporation is not meeting the commission's requirements to operate its Buffalo casino.
The Missouri Gaming Commission has set a special meeting Monday to consider a “moratorium” on future casino licenses. If approved the measure would appear to dash, at least in the short term, any hopes for a new casino in Sugar Creek that the commission has been considering for more than a year. “There has been a change and its all going to be discussed Monday,” said commission spokeswoman LeAnn McCarthy, who declined further comment.
The Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission will not authorize new casino licenses and will seek a study on the impact of new casinos. The five member commission made its decision Thursday morning at a meeting in Johnston. At least five communities have said they want to build new casinos: Fort Dodge, Franklin County, Newton, Ottumwa and Tama. Iowa has 20 casinos, and it’s been three years since the state accepted new applications.
