South Florida’s floating-gaming industry may be running out of luck. SeaEscape Entertainment, the only gaming vessel left at Port Everglades, on Monday informed Broward County its last sailings from Port Everglades will be Sunday. In recent months, Horizon’s Edge Casino Cruises and Aquasino have ceased operations in Miami-Dade County. And Palm Beach Princess is on the auction block — raising the possibility that a buyer may want to relocate the vessel from Port of Palm Beach.

Those heading stateside later this year might like to make a detour via Lake Michigan and two of the world largest floating casinos. The current biggest floating casino is the Blue Chip 2 in Michigan City, Indiana. However, this summer, also on the shores of Lake Michigan will be built Horseshoe Casino Hammond, a 350,000 square feet monster. It will be the size of seven football fields and more than five times the size of Blue Chip 2. That’s a lot of slot machines.

A Singapore-based company has won the Bureau of Internal Revenue’s bidding for M/V Philippine Dream, a floating casino. Mandaue City Revenue Election Officer Emir Abutasil, chairman of the bidding, said that Aston submitted a bid of USD 1.3 million. The bidding was held at the BIR district office in Lapu-Lapu City as the vessel is anchored along the strait of Mactan. Abutasil said the bureau auctioned the floating casino after its owner failed to pay USD 1.3 million in tax liabilities.
