Topeka - A state board will take another step forward this week in its efforts to decide which developers should build and manage four state-owned resort casinos. The Kansas Lottery Gaming Facility Review Board will begin hearing presentations from prospective casino managers and hear public comment on new gaming ventures today. The seven-member board will meet in each of the four areas of the state that would house the resort casinos.

Pittsburgh casino developer Don Barden told the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board on Wednesday that efforts to complete USD 780 million in financing for his planned Majestic Star Casino are moving forward, a spokesman said. Barden's spokesman, Bob Oltmanns, said the Detroit businessman "addressed all of the board members' questions. They seemed to be satisfied." Beating rival bidders by USD 3 a share, real estate developer Ian Bruce Eichner (in partnership with Dune Capital Management) offered to pay USD 30 a share for Riviera Holdings Corp. The latter is owner of the Riviera Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas and the Riviera Black Hawk in Colorado. Riviera Holdings announced the bid today and officials said they will give the offer serious attention. Shares in Riviera Holdings jumped to USD 33 on Friday, a new 52-week high, during late afternoon trading on the AMEX.
