(Bloomberg) -- Melco Crown Entertainment Ltd. Chairman Lawrence Ho, son of Macau gambling tycoon Stanley Ho, said it’s “crucial” that its USD 2.1 billion City of Dreams casino defies the global recession and has a successful opening. “We know the pressure is on us,” Ho said today in a Bloomberg Television interview in Macau. “The success of it will have major implications.”
City of Dreams, the integrated entertainment resort set to be open on the Cotai Strip, officially announced yesterday its major recruitment drive of 7,000 positions in Macau. The property, developed by Melco Crown Entertainment Limited, is scheduled to unveil its door in the first half of this year. As part of the recruitment drive, the company will be hosting a Macau Recruitment Fair on February 7 and February 8 on Level 2 at the the Macau Tower.
(Bloomberg) -- Melco Crown Entertainment Ltd., a venture between Australian billionaire James Packer and Macau magnate Stanley Ho’s son, said its City of Dreams casino will open in the second quarter of this year. “The worst time has probably gone” for Macau, Chief Executive Officer Lawrence Ho said at a press conference in Macau today. The opening of the USD 2.1 billion project in the world’s largest gambling hub will create about 7,000 jobs, he added.
City of Dreams, Crown’s development project in the Cotai which will include four hotels as well as serviced apartments, and an underwater-themed casino, is expected to be “the tourist destination’s hottest selling point at next year’s travel fair.” The over USD 2 billion complex going up right across the Venetian Macao Resort Hotel on the Cotai Strip will open in May next year, said May Chow, group director for hotel sales and marketing for Melco Crown Entertainment...
New York (AP) -- Melco Crown Entertainment Ltd. on Friday maintained that its casino resort under development in Macau will still open during the first half of 2009 and has enough funding for the first two phases of development. Melco's announcement comes after recent media reports suggested that the project might be delayed. The casino industry, as well as many other sectors, has been pressured as consumers continue to curb spending due to the ongoing housing slowdown, rising food and fuel costs and eroding credit.
