Terry Lanni didn't take a victory lap. He didn't stop for the applause and he didn't wait for the accolades. Instead, Lanni told the world on Nov. 13 he was retiring as chairman and chief executive officer of gaming industry giant MGM Mirage after 13 years at the helm. Five days later, the casino company's board of directors voted to have President and Chief Operating Officer Jim Murren fill Lanni's positions.

The board of MGM Mirage Inc. appointed Jim Murren the casino operator’s new chairman and chief executive to replace Terry Lanni, the company said this week. Murren, MGM Mirage’s chief operating officer and the man largely credited with envisioning its USD 9.2 billion CityCenter complex now under construction on the Las Vegas Strip, will take over the top spot December 1, the company said.

Atlantic City - The Atlantic City Hilton Casino Resort has lost its chief executive in a management change that follows a steep decline in revenue and profits at the smallest gaming hall in town. Anthony Rodio resigned as president Tuesday and will be replaced by Michael Frawley, who is coming up from two Mississippi casinos to take charge of the Hilton as the new chief operating officer.

St. Louis, Missouri - Clarion Gaming's American office is instituting several staffing changes, including long term online gambling industry leader, Sue Schneider, stepping down from her position as CEO. Her two year commitment to remain full time in that position after the sale of River City Group to Clarion Events has ended. Mrs. Schneider will continue to act as an advisor for Clarion.

Embattled casino operator William J. Yung III has stepped down as chief executive officer of Tropicana Entertainment Holdings LLC, which has filed for bankruptcy. Tropicana owns Casino Aztar in Evansville and 10 other casino properties in Nevada, Mississippi, Louisiana and New Jersey. According to a company statement released Friday, Yung will continue to serve on a new board of directors, but President Scott C. Butera will take over as CEO of the northern Kentucky-based company.

World leading casino operator company Harrah’s Entertainment announced this week that it has extended the existing employment agreement with Gary Loveman, the company’s Chairman, Chief Executive Officer and President. Loveman is expected to remain in those positions following completion of the merger of Harrah’s with affiliates of TPG and Apollo Management, which is expected to occur in early 2008.

Unibet CEO Petter Nylander has been released on bail after having been transferred from the Netherlands to the French legal authorities in Nanterre, Paris. After the hearing, the judge decided to release Nylander under the condition of a bail of 200,000 euros. In 2006, French lottery monopoly Française des Jeux and horse betting monopoly PMU alleged that Unibet had breached French national laws protecting those state-owned monopolies.
