RFEF Corruption Scandal: Luis Rubiales Arrested

Former president of Spain football association RFEF Luis Rubiales has been arrested upon his return to Spain at Madrid airport on Wednesday morning.

Rubiales has been in the spotlight of corruption investigations, subjecting the relocation of the Spanish Super Cup to Saudi Arabia. In the course of the operations, Spanish authorities had just conducted raids and searches and arrested six people, including Rubiales’ former right-hand man.

Luis Rubiales has not only been known to the public for his re-structuring of the Spanish Super Cup, but also sparked a public outcry when kissing football star Jennifer Hermoso against her will after the women’s world cup final in 2023, leading to his resignation from the RFEF presidency.

The current arrest is the seventh in the course of the corruption investigations regarding the Super Cup, while investigations are still ongoing.
