SugarHouse Casino hearing moved to Philadelphia

A hearing on the revised proposal for a SugarHouse Casino in Philadelphia will be moved from Harrisburg, Pa., to Philadelphia.

The hearing will still be May 6, though details of where in Philadelphia and what time will be set later this week, the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board said.

HSP Gaming LP, developer of the SugarHouse Casino, seeks modifications to its original design and is also seeking additional time to make slot machines available to play.

SugarHouse is seeking approval to open a modified version of the casino in the interest of opening sooner. The casino would be on the Delaware River in Philadelphia’s Fishtown neighborhood.

Developers hope the interim casino could open sometime after April 1, 2010. The interim casino would be incorporated into a long-term plan for a larger casino.

Phase I would cost USD 650 million and have 3,000 slots.
