The announcement that the Wyndham Nassau Resort and Crystal Palace Casino will close its doors for two months as a result of the global recession has prompted the Bahamas Gaming Reform (BGR) Committee to renew its call for the Government to comprehensively examine the nation’s current gaming laws. The traditionally slow tourist season is between August 17 to October 5; therefore, the closure of the resort during this period is to assist in minimizing the negative impact this season has on the overall financial well-being of the property.

In a press statement yesterday, BGR President Sidney Strachan said his organization sees the current laws as inadequate to cope with the changing dynamics of the international gaming industry.

He added that the arcane and archaic discriminatory policies are debilitating to the potential for growth in a very important sector of the touristic product and denying citizens and residents every opportunity to participate in this growth.
