Gambling card to set pokies limit

There is to be a trial in South Australia of a card that aims to limit spending by gamblers on poker machines.

The State Government says gamblers can use the card to nominate how much they can spend in a day and when that is reached, they will be alerted.

The trial will be operated by the company which markets the venue card system J-Card.

SA Gambling Minister Paul Caica says the trial will start next month at four hotels in Adelaide’s northern, western and southern suburbs.

„I’d reinforce the point it’s a tool for all gamblers – it’s not necessarily a tool for people who have problems with their gambling,“ he said.

„It’s a tool that can be used by all gamblers to pre-commitment and set limits on their expenditure and it’s certainly a trial worth undertaking here in South Australia.“
