Macau posts record visitors

Nearly 22 million people visited the Chinese enclave of Macau during the first ten months of 2007. According to the region’s Statistics and Census Bureau, the figure was close to the total amount for 2006.

The Statistics and Census Bureau also said that they expected upwards of 26 million visitors by the end of the year. Analysts attributed the number to the former-Portuguese colony’s new role as one of the world’s gaming capitals.

Fifty-five per cent were from mainland China, a 22.6 per cent rise year on year. Macau has a total population of 525,000.
