Resort’s new GBP 3.5m casino opens

A GBP 3.5m casino has opened in Blackpool, just months after the resort’s bid for a super-casino was rejected.

Those behind the bid believed the bid was vital to restore the town’s fortunes, as visitor numbers have slumped by millions over the years.

But peers rejected the Gambling Order backing the decision to build the super-casino in Manchester in March.

The new G Casino on the South Promenade has the biggest poker room in the UK, with seating for up to 250 people.

Entertainment stage

It was formerly known as the Grosvenor Casino, but has undergone a complete refurbishment.

It now includes a restaurant, bar and entertainment stage.

When the Gambling Order was rejected earlier this year, some peers – including Church of England Bishops – had raised objections to gambling in general.

Others were specifically against the order because Blackpool missed out or because MPs did not have the chance to debate the choice of Manchester.
