Rep Porter wins first Six-Handed Hold'em Tournament at 2008 World Series of Poker - ISA-GUIDE

Rep Porter wins first Six-Handed Hold’em Tournament at 2008 World Series of Poker

Rep Porter survived three intense days of six-handed No Limit Hold’em poker to win his first WSOP bracelet and USD 372,929. Porter outlasted more than 1,200 players in two days of loose action and then varied his style to be the last man standing at a much tighter final table. He beat Nathan Templeton heads up in four hands to earn the victory.

The tournament began at a blistering pace, with all ins on nearly every hand and busts every few minutes. With the field narrowing at breakneck speed, the leader board was constantly in flux. Porter gained speed near the end of Day 1 and was second in chips after the first day of play. He was third heading into the final table.

Popular Dutch player Michiel Brummelhuis was the first to go at the final table, followed by Canadian Anatoly Shilyuk. After Shilyuk’s departure, play slowed to a crawl. It was several hours before John Conkright, who began the day as chip leader, took several hits and busted in fourth place. Rep Porter and Devin Porter, no relation, showed down next, and Devin was eliminated in third. Holding a dominant chip lead, Rep Porter quickly defeated Nathan Templeton heads up for the bracelet. This is Rep’s tenth WSOP cash and his first tournament win. He earned $ 3,070 for his 72nd place finish in the Omaha Hi/Low Eight or Better event earlier in the Series.
