More than ten million people in Kenya, Ethiopia, Somalia and Djibouti are now in need of urgent humanitarian assistance. This is the most severe food crisis in the world today. Some areas are experiencing the driest period in 60 years. Rising food and fuel prices, the death of livestock and conflict have all added to the terrible impact of the drought. We have heard from our colleagues that people are having to walk for 3 hours to find water, when previously it was only ½ hour.

CARE has a long standing presence in Ethiopia, Kenya and Somalia and we are working to provide vital emergency relief alongside our long-term development programmes. We are already distributing food aid, safe water and animal feed, as well as helping with livelihood protection for thousands of families affected by the drought. The monies you’ve raised through the Gaming Awards help us to be able to respond quickly and help people affected by this terrible drought and other emergencies like it – thank you very much.
