The prohibition of new casinos in Mendoza became law

The Senate of the province of Mendoza approved the law that bans the opening of new casinos, so one the Governor Celso Jaque enacted it, casinos will be no longer authorized in the province.

The project had achieved the approval of the Chamber of Representatives last Wednesday, and today it achieved the approval of the Senate, with the support of all the senators except those from Confe.

The new law brings the government the power to create an interdisciplinary commission that will evaluate the influence of gambling problems in the population, and it also demands the setting of the proper schedule for the operation of gambling venues.

The norm is controversial, because a similar one was approved at the end of 2008 but then it was vetoed by Jaque. And while this new proposal was elaborated, the government approved three casinos that will open shortly: one in a hotel in San Martín, another one in Diplomatic in Belgrano Street and a third one in a casino hotel in Maipu.
