4,500 gaming jobs open

Up for grabs: 4,500 gaming jobs such as croupiers, casino schedulers and pit supervisors.

Marina Bay Sands Integrated Resort, which is targeting to open by end of this year, is hiring staff in areas such as Table Games, Slots, Casino Finance, Player Development and Surveillance in the second recruitment drive later this month.

Out of these 4,500 openings, 1,500 will be for supervisory roles. And, as with the first phase of recruitment, the focus will be on Singaporeans.

In the first phase, 2,500 non-gaming positions, including housekeepers, technicians and waiters, were offered.

Out of the 4,600 applicants referred to Marina Bay Sands by labour movement’s employment and employability institute (e2i), about 30 per cent, or 1,300 jobseekers were shortlisted. About 74 per cent of them are 40 years and older and 59 per cent were unemployed.

At a media briefing on Thursday, Mr Nigel Roberts, President of Marina Bay Sands, said: ‚We’re very pleased with the quality of the candidates generated from our partnership with NTUC‘s e2i. We plan to issue epproximately 1,000 Letters of Intent by the middle of the year.‘

Mr Roberts said the next recruitment drive will target a wider group of Singaporeans, including professionals, managers, executives and technicians (PMETs). Due to the gaming nature of the jobs offered, he said jobseekers must be at least 21 years.

Prior experience for the rank-and-file positions is not a must, added Mr Daniel Shim, Senior Vice President of Human Resources-Asia, Las Vegas Sands Corp.

He said: ‚We are keenly aware that gaming is a new industry in Singapore. Hence, prior experience for the rank-and-file gaming positions is not a pre-requisite because successful applicants will undergo extensive training.‘
