Non-local casino pit supervisors allowed to work till mid-year

Director of the Human Resources Office, Vong Chi Hong, said the 43 imported casino pit supervisors who got their work duration extended late 2008 will only be working in Macau until June 30 this year at the latest.

In response to lawmaker Ng Kuok Cheong’s interpellation on the foreign labour policy, Vong stressed that the office had been „closely“ complying with the relevant regulations and „strictly“ approving non-local workers applications to supplement Macau’s human resources.

Between October 1 and December 31, 2008, he said his office received respectively 47 and 58 applications from gaming enterprises to renew the duration of work for non-local pit managers and pit supervisors.

Of the 105 applications, 60 were approved, and 43 of them were of pit supervisors whose duration of work had been extended to June 30, 2009 at the longest.

During the same period, among the 1,194 renewal applications in relation to hotel and catering positions, 43.5 percent or 519 mainly in the area of cleaning service, security and customers attending service in restaurants were rejected by the office.

At the same time, 4,870 new import applications and 25,809 renewal applications for non local construction workers were received.

Vong said the office only approved respectively 43 and 9,598.

A total of 21,038 people did not get the approvals, accounting for 68.6 percent of the two kinds of imported construction workers applications.
