Codere Foundation organized in Spain its first conference on the future of gambling in Europe

Together with the European Commission and Equipo Económico consultants

In the Office of the European Commission of Madrid, last week it was held the seminar “The future of the gaming sector in Europe: challenges and opportunities,” organized and sponsored by Codere Foundation together with the European Commission and Equipo Económico consultants.

This meeting is part of the activities of Codere Foundation, with the aim to become a space of reflection, debate and investigation around the gambling sector.

The conference was inaugurated by José Luis González Vallvé, Director of the Representation of the European Commission in Spain and the President of Codere Foundation, José Antonio Martínez Sampedro. It also counted with the assistance of Antonio Beteta Barreda, Councillor of Economy and Finance of Madrid Community, Gonzalo Fernández Rodríguez, General Director of Lotteries and Betting of the state, Ricardo Martínez Rico, President of the Financial Team, Erik Vagnhammar, General Direction of the Internal Market and Services.

Vallvé welcomed the assistants and commented: “The economic importance of the gaming sector in the European Union, whose value is around 300 billion euros” and pointed “its legal and administrative importance, in this moment of standardization of European norms.”

Besides, Martínez Sampedro commented the “need of a common legislation between the members of the E.U, based mainly in legal security, transparency, in the consumer protection, considering relevant aspects such as advertising, tax income, authorized operators, the system and all those crucial aspects for the norm to be really practical and useful”.

Then, Beteta Barreda talked about the need to “define clear regulatory aspects for games of chance, both traditional and online”. During the session, different European specialists in the law, economy and fiscal sector commented their vision of the future in the gaming sector in the European market. They focused in regulation, trying to define the best public policies on games of chance.

Among the public, there were representatives of the administration, associations of the sector, operators and manufacturers, regulators, legal experts in the gaming environment and media.

“Codere Foundation will keep on working with the aim to bring society a real image if the games of chance activity, in favor of the meeting of public institutions and the gambling industry, cooperating with regulators and users in order to minimize the possible social impact of this activity,” announced its organizers.
