Geneva – Kane County wants to make sure state gaming officials are considering the big picture in awarding the 10th and final riverboat gambling license.

The Kane County Board Monday passed a resolution asking the Illinois Gaming Board, which meets Tuesday, to make public all „data, information and methodologies used to evaluate the impacts of the proposed new licenses and their impact on existing casinos in Aurora and Elgin.“

The board also asked the Gaming Board to solicit comment and insight from Kane County leaders.

Kane officials are concerned if the board awards the final license to investors from Rosemont, it will dramatically hurt profits at the Grand Victoria Casino in Elgin, and to a lesser extent profits at the Hollywood Casino-Aurora.

The impact would not be as bad if the license went to Waukegan, officials said.

A representative of the Grand Victoria attended Monday’s special County Board meeting to say a casino in Rosemont could cut into their profits by as much as 40 to 55 percent. Last year, the casino contributed about USD 38 million in local taxes to Elgin and Kane County, and about USD 7.6 million to the county’s riverboat trust fund.

The county has awarded millions of dollars to social service agencies and community funds and projects down through the years from that fund, which is why a dramatic cut in profits concerns county officials.

„The community reinvestment we have with the Grand Victoria is second to none in the state,“ said County Board Chairman Karen McConnaughay. „The whole purpose of riverboat gaming was for community reinvestment.“
